I would say, "Oh, sure, that's just what I think," if he didn't right out admit it. :/ It is too hard to defend these books, they
weren't
going to be published until his parents got into the business JUST for that reason, and the only reason he got popular because he was a cute little boy who thought he could write in your typical purple prose style for a budding teenager.
Regardless of the last link representing the movie, it still reviews the storyline. Which, I would hope, is remotely the same as the book, less we see it more similar to Star Wars than it was in written word.
Anyway, just for lols:
Rocket Number 09: 'Eragon' is an epic ... RIP-OFF
A Wandering Eyre Star Wars by George Lucas v. The Inheritance Trilogy by Christopher Paolini
Amazon.com: Aleydis' review of Eldest (Inheritance, Book 2)
Comparisons between the plot of Eragon and Star Wars@Everything2.com
Obviously more than a few people find the similarities disturbing.
The idea behind the movie may have been the same,
The movie is based of the Eragon book... that is as far as it goes in likeness... Paolini wasn't there to go "Do this like this movie here"... and you act like authors borrowing ideas from other writers is a new thing? I'm fairly positive that he isn't the first to commit such an act, if thats how you want to see it. If you go to the childrens section of Barnes and Noble (Where you'll find this series,) I can point out about a hundred books that are ALL similar in plot/story/characters.
Who cares if the plot is the same? It's how he takes that plot and turns it into a unique story about Eragon and Sapphira.
Before you criticise, you need to pick the book up yourself.
To damn the book without having read it first hand is a rather onesided way of going about things.
Which...
Only attests to your ignorance.
So please,
if you would...
Read the book and then come back with a valid argument.
