This week's theme was lines.

Some things to keep in mind when choosing your favorite photo (in no particular order):

1. Composition-
Is the photo composed well? Does it make good use of both negative and positive space? Are your eyes stuck in one spot or are there different elements competing for your attention (in a good or bad way?)? Is it balanced?
2. Focus-
Is the shot focused well? If something is not in focus, is it that way for a good reason?
3. Depth of Field-
Did the photographer use minimum or maximum depth of field to their advantage? Is their choice the best for the shot?
4. Concept-
Is it conceptual? Is it shallow or deep and thought-provoking? Is it cliche?
5. Color-
If there's color, is it good? Or is something off about it? Would it be better monochromatic? If there isn't color, should there be?
6. Light-
Are lighting elements used well? Does the picture have interesting shadows and highlights? Is the light source the best for the picture?
7. Theme (the most important for this contest)-
Does it fit the theme?

Obviously, the weight given to each should depend on the subject matter and theme. If I forgot anything, let me know.

Nailed it with the first one. Gorgeous (and nice contrast) colors, really interesting pose (and position) that sort of follows the angle of the line of trees in the background. Focus is absolutely perfect, great balance. The model really stands out she contradicts all the lines (the trees in the row, the profile of them against the sky, the pavement, shadow of the other trees). Just wow! Something I'd expect in a magazine. :^

Second favorite is 3 (nice atmosphere, wish I was there, but maybe a little too dark? great focus on line to horizon though, and great color)- it's a more obvious throwback to the theme, but it's not as striking as the very first.
Third favorite is 5 (nice picture, great angle, not too sure about monochrome though)...

I really like the 2nd and 3rd because of the abstractness of them but the 2nd wins me over with all the interesting coloring xD

I thought second one too (love the lines), but I think the clash of colors is a little too distracting (probably because it's a little unfocused or too tall).

I think the best is 2, have many color and efects
the first is nice too

I picked number 6, it had lines portrayed the best.. Wish there wasn't a date on it though.

I don't understand how 1 has anything to do with lines, besides the trees. But that's not the focus of the photograph.

1 is actually FULL of lines. It's a great example of how line can be portrayed in a photo of something other than architecture.
Her arms, the angle on which she is, and how her body is almost perpendicular to the bushes... it's a beautiful shot.

Well this week has VERY good entries, compared to other weeks where only one or two of the entries really fit well.

I am kind of having second thoughts about my choice. I really like number 3 as well, not only does it display lines it is also VERY beautiful. I am wondering if whoever took the photograph would mind telling me where it was taken.
