What are image clicks?

can someone explain to me what they are?
and are they legal?

Legal, no. It's pretty much clicking on images that Neopets has that gives Neopoints.

Imageclickers use macros/scripting to click on em which Neopets doesn't like and thus they deem it illegal.

You, personally, probably. You might want to get someone else to double check on that though...I haven't checked Neopets in awhile though I do use an imageclicker from time to time.

It's okay to do it manually.

The image clicks take you to sponsored websites, and if you're not actually visiting those sites, it's illegal.
On sites like NeoAcademy, it loads all of the image clicks at once - and therefore, you're not really visiting the sponsor page, which is why it's not allowed.

Depends which perspective are you viewing it from. In neopets perspective yes, they are, but those image clicks also gain neopet money, so in a way it helps them but it is still illegal. In most people's perspective, including neoacademy, it is also illegal but put it up on their site anyway, neoacademy also has manual clicks, which are legal because it is manual, but I think either way is legal, just because a php script does it for you, doesn't mean it's different at all.
The reason why neopets won't shut the site down is probably because it gains them money, so it's a win win.
