China's One Child Policy

Background Information:
Before the one child policy was settled, families in China used to have up to 10 children because they believed that more children would mean greater prosperity, not to mention extra hands to help out around the house or in the fields.

However, the population of China increased rapidly because of this mentality and the Chinese realized that if their population were to rise above roughly 1.3 billion people, their resources would become exhausted and famine would occur. That is the reason why the one child policy was adapted in 1979.


One of the disadvantages is that there will be an imbalance in genders. Most couples favour boys more than girls. When they have a girl, the parents would sometimes engage in an act of infanticide where they murder their own child or they do not report the birth of the baby girl. An official estimate says that, by 2020, there may be 30 million men of marriageable age who will not be able to find a wife since the girls are outnumbered.

One of the advantages is that with a controlled population, China’s welfare is not at risk anymore.
There was a high unemployment rate before because of overpopulation, but after the one child policy was enforced, there was less competition for jobs.


Do you agree with China's one child policy? Does the government have the right to govern the number of children a family can have?

no but yeah i think it is very good that they put that rule in.

They're already feeling the effects of that policy. Since the male;female ratio is so out of whack, there are tons of single men who can't find a g/f (wife etc) because the rich men in the larger cities tend to swipe them up. The not so wealthy guys from farming regions travel to the large cities looking for work to make more money to show they could support a family- but their plans often don't work out. So the cities are forming huge red light districts and there's a surplus of jaded, frustrated, lonely males wandering around. It's kind of a breeding pit for problems. They predict it'll make violent crime rates spike.

Yes, that is happening right now. In addition, in a class where there is exceedingly more boys than girls, the girls tend to become more aggressive as they copy the boys. Girls need to defend themselves. There was a girl who beat off four boys as they tried to look at what she was drawing at school during recess break. As well, many women have left their homes to search for work elsewhere resulting in the overloaded number of men.

I know this is old news if that's what you're referring to but I was curious about whether people agree with the policy.

Not to mention, a lot of the males from other countries are attracted to Asian females, thus leaving the poor Chinese men with little to females of their own.

ANYWAY.. I've always wanted to adopt a little Chinese girl XD

I told Fire, but he wants to try to have some of our own first and the 5th baby might be a little Chinese girl XD!!!

I've always wondered, why are some males from other countries attracted to Asian women? Like, what is it that they find attractive.

Yeah, plenty of girls are up for adoption because of the policy now. Wow..5 babies, that's a lot! [In my opinion] I have three children in my family including myself and there's already a lot of drama going on!

Yeah, I know. A lot of them XD

But, we'll have a few years difference between them. It would be awesome because they would all be honor students. Mommy and daddy are smart, so the babies will be too XD

But yeah, I still have no idea what I'd name her :(
