Democrat v. Republican TV

I like fox news.

I don't see why everyone is against it.
I can't stand those elitist "I am better than you Gaffawhaha" people on those democrat stations They make me feel bad every time I watch them (which was every day from fall to spring since that is ALL my school has on in the cafeteria). And because they make me feel bad, they make me feel irritated. And because they have irritated me, they make me want to throw a chair through the TV. They talk in circles, half the stuff is insulting to people like me, and the other half is blatant lies, blown out of proportion and context truths to seem like something...I dunno, scandalous? horrible?...and they are just so obnoxious -_-

But it comes to my understanding that the majority of people who hate fox news haven't really watched it and they associate fox news SOLELY with O'Reily.

Correct me if I am wrong?

Because whenever I ask someone why they hate fox news it is because of a guy that is only on TV for ONE hour every day (two if you count the rerun at night, which I don't) and because their friend or someone else told them he is SUCH a right wing nut-loon and they haven't even watched the show themselves. Or they only watched ten minutes of the show. (Not saying this applies to you, GG, just people whom I have encountered)

I like O'Reily, Rush, Hannity, and all the other "to the right" talk-show hosts/speakers because they speak a version of truth I appreciate and can relate to. Which is all what any news station does. They also aren't about putting someone (like Obama) on a pedestal and making him seem more of a God than the upjumped man that he really is.

I also appreciate fox news because they were the only station to question WHO Obama is whereas the other stations treated him like a celebrity, a God, One-Who-Must-Not-Be-Questioned-Or-You-Are-A-RACIST!!! and all they ever did was trash conservatives and republicans -_- EVERY time I went to the cafeteria...

It just seems to me that this day and age has transformed from Questioning Authority to Questioning Republicans and Obeying Authority...

I need to divide my argument up into parts or else this will come out completely incoherent.
Firstly...

1. There is no such thing as Republican or Democratic channels. Not yet, anyhow. Fox news, believe it or not, is no owned by the Republican party. But the talking heads on the channel tend to have conservative leanings. This is particularly problematic because they claim to be "fair and balanced", "non-partisan", and at the same time they complain how liberals are leading to the destruction of America's moral fiber.
Did you know that all liberals want you to have abortions and take away Christmas? ITS TRUE.

2. You're not going to get accurate news, consistently, from television. They don't want you to actually be informed. They want you to be entertained so that you watch them for an extended period of time so that you'll buy their products. Thats all. They don't care about journalistic integrity, no. This should be entirely obvious by the ridiculous juxtaposition of "thousands are dying in Iran. Meanwhile, cute kittens! Also, MJ's dead omg! What common household product will probably kill you? Tune in later to find out!"
I mean seriously? What the hell? If its really that dangerous, wouldn't you want me to know right away? And why don't you cite your studies? Oh. Right. You just want me afraid.
Either give me fluff or give me real, hardhitting stories. But giving me both simultaneously is just weird. And playing into peoples fears is just sick.

3. You don't want the truth anyway. You just want someone to pat you on the back and tell you your ideas are right. Damn those elitist lib'ralz/nutjob conservatives! Thems is the bad guy! We're good! We're good!
These news organizations pit you against each other for no damn good reason so that you buy into them even more. This doesn't benefit you or our country which is already divided. It just puts money into their pockets. You are their pawn.

I say you should get your information from various sources, be skeptical, and formulate your own ideas and opinions. There's nothing with having a conservative viewpoint, but you should question your own beliefs and judgments. Always.
O'Reilly, Olbermann... they're both demagogues who are playing into your fears of "those other guys". They don't care about you, the "average man" (and when they say that, they usually refer to white middle class males, and thats about it), or anything else besides their precious ego and their wads of cold, hard, goddamn cash.

TL;DR:
TV bad.
Internet good.
Cold hard goddamn cash.

I'd thank you if I had a button for it. Beautiful post and I completely agree. I hardly ever watch TV news anymore, OReily is starting to ingratiate me again and those other station are even worse I mainly read news articles online and then do research beyond that if it interests me.

These news organizations pit you against each other for no damn good reason so that you buy into them even more.

During the election I wanted to rip my hair out after hearing all the republican bashing.

And all the bashing of fox news too,

None of the people I know have actually watched fox news outside of the local news portion.


And god how I hated the teachers who got their panties in a knot when I said I wanted McCain to win. Don't fucking ask the class what they think of the election and who they want to win if you're just going to get mad when I choose the opposing side.
