Do you think that religion will ever go away? Personally I don't think so because people use religion for two things; a safe haven and something to justify their actions.
If the suicide bombers didn't think they were going to get 40 virgins after completing their mission, they probably wouldn't have proceeded.

Religion instills blind submission to authority from birth. It gives people something to blame things on, and in societies eyes it bends people towards the greater good.
Let's look back at these greater goods of religion;
-Crusades
-Salem Witch Trials
-Islamic Extremists
-Most every war in history
Religion is important for the Authoritative figures of today. It gives them the advantage of saying it's "God's will," and getting the blind support of millions without a single one of them questioning it. The world needs religion. People need something to shift blame to so that they won't feel at fault. People want to feel like that little special and unique snowflake.
I personally believe religion, mostly Christianity, is used as a form of mass control.

Discuss | Most things that used to take Gods and supernatural beings to explain were explained by what is now basic science. Yet despite this, people still claim that even though the initial writers of the bible are incorrect, people still blindly follow.
Curious, indeed.
People will always blindly follow.
Or, as I like to put it:

Christianity, Judaism, and Islam do not = all religions. Dharmic religions, (such as Hinduism and Buddhism), are incredibly widespread as well and their followers are typically peaceful. Then you have neo-pagan religions and various others that don't fit into any particular category.
Humans naturally gravitate towards spirituality, for whatever reason; it may because they have a thirst for knowledge, a want for a community, a purpose, so basically, yeah.
The world needs religion, and to try to sum up all that is religious as 'an explanation for what can be explained by science' is ridiculous and ignorant. And if we didn't have suicide bombers killing in the name of Allah, we'd have suicide bombers killing in the name of political figure X.

Instead of facing their own mortality, virtually all religions provide that there's more to it than that.
I have a theory that the only people who are still actually religious are the one's who have never sat down and said to themselves "you know, this might be bullshit"

You cannot compare science, to the bible. Theres nothing to compare.
Science is fact, Bible is idea.
You cannot stop an idea. An idea is neither true, nor false.

Buddhism.
No higher being, and Buddhism and science are generally considered compatible. You fail. Again, Christianity =/= all religions. Not all religions even have god(s).
And inb4 "Buddhism is just a philosophy".

And inb4 "Buddhism is just a philosophy". | I never said Christianity was all religions. But, the MAJORITY of religions operated that way, and I'm oh so sorry for not being educated in the ways of Buddhism.
