The above link should be updated regularly, methinks.
It's funny how USA argues with China that USA should be ranked first because they have the most medals in total. However, China ranks the countries according to the number of gold medals received. And it just happened that they are first~ :o
I thought it's the quality that matters and not the quantity.
Technically, most or all countries' ranking is by gold whereas USA ranks by the total number of medals.
Do you think it should be ranked by the total number of medals or by the number of gold?

GPoints: 41 Rep Power: 1 | I 100% agree.
It should be about the level of excellence achieved by each nation. Golds should be ranked above silver etc. Those who win the most golds are, imo, simply more athletically achieved in those games.
I think its way better to have 10 golds, 10 silvers, and 1 bronze than to have 1 silver and 30 bronzes.
Plus if the total number of medals was all that mattered, wheres the glory in winning a gold? It kind of takes away a bit of the status of that gold, making a gold worth less than 2 bronzes for example, might start to make observers think "Who cares who wins the gold, lets just try to put in enough mediocre athletes to win all the bronzes!" and then the people who do win golds would just get ignored in favour of the nation that won more "lesser" medals.
I am rambling, sorry, but anyhow, thats what I think. Quality all the way!

GPoints: 26 Rep Power: 2 | Quality for sure.
Say one team has 30 bronze medals and another team has 28 gold medals and that is all the medals they have.
What team is better?
The team with the 28 Gold medals are the better team I would say.

GPoints: 22 Rep Power: 2 | Quality, definitely.
I mean, it's good to get a medal, regardless of it's color. But people strive for gold, because that's the best they can do.
If we had more golds than China, you can bet that list would be sorted by gold medals; the USA just wanted to look better than any other country.
