Oh I think there is definitely a difference! I will use myself as an example lol! My best friend of over 10 years is a male, and I love him with all of my heart, but I'm not "in love" with him, nor is he with me... in fact I am very happily "in love" with my Husband of 3 years
Caring about someone and loving them is an emotion you will have with anyone that you are close with... but when you are in love with someone... well those are just feelings that you can't describe

i too believe that the difference is the feeling behind each. "in love" is the more romantic of the two, something you'd say to a partner/spouse. But just love is something platonic, like between two friends or siblings.

I'm not quite sure if someone else has worded it this way but being "in love" is infatuation (which is more temporary/fleeting) I guess. Love itself is more permanent, long lasting.

You can say that you "I love you" to anybody, but you can only say "I'm in love with you" to your special someone.

Love is similar to Like, only if something was to happen to someone you Love, you'd feel for them.

In Love is a feeling for someone that you can see yourself living your life with.

Personally I think being in love is something that happens only once, perhaps twice in a lifetime. To some it may not happen at all. I think it's the most intense emotion you can feel, and once you've truly fallen in love you will always be partial to that person.

Or maybe I'm just too emotional xD

But really, it pisses me off to the extreme when silly young couples go on about being in love and shite. Sure, there's a very slim possibility, but 99.9999% of the time it's a load of shit. And if they really experienced this emotion they wouldn't be throwing it around like candy on halloween, now, would they? :|

Got to say I've loved people, but never near close to being in love.
