GPoints: 47,397 Rep Power: 14 | Is there a difference between 'in love' and 'love'? i was talking with someone about this - is there a difference? i say there is. in love is the butterfly feelings, the sparkling eyes, and the feelings you get. i dont think being in love with someone lasts forever, but i think you can always love the person. loving the person means that you are happy that theyre with you and will do everything in your power to make them happy. i think this is where people for 20+ years who are still married are. their in love area died but they still love eachother. what are your ideas?

"In love" is a phrase generally used to describe how a person feels (e.g. John is in love).
Seems like it would be difficult to mix the two up.
But in all seriousness, it's an argument of semantics. I mean, honestly; how ridiculous would a conversation about this sound?
"Jim, I think I'm in love with Jenny."
"No, John, I think you love Jenny. You're not in love with her."
"Are you sure? I'm almost positive I'm in love."
"Nope. Just love, not in love."
Quibbling over semantics is inefficient, removes the natural beauty from language, and hinders communication.

loving someone is totally different. you can love your mom and family and not want to be with them in any romantic way, but that you just love them on principal.

honestly there is a difference. im not good with worse but ill try my best to describe my concept of "i love you" and being "in love"
well i think if you're in love with someone its more of an affectionate thing with them its the feeling that you can spend the rest of your life with this person and see yourself in the future with them, its the feeling of having that spark of happiness when youre around them and them being a trustworthy person.
when you say "i love you" it can be said to just anyone such as a family memeber, friend. you can love them and have love for them but being "in love" with them would go more with a spouse.
this probably made no sense lol. im really bad with words.

Being "In Love" means you want to be with that person romantically/for the rest of your life.
"Love" just means you like something a whole like more then just like... Or that you have deep rooted feelings for them (ex: your parents).
I love my parents, and some of my closest friends. But I am in love with my husband. I guess that is how I can break it down best.
