Time for another pit bull thread.

So I've been doing some youtubing, googling, and other stuff to deliberately find the ignorant asses that feel so strongly that all pit bulls are born to deserve to die for existing. I've done trolled myself, so here I am.

First off, I'm going to take some comments from a very vague pit bull attack report....Long story short, some unleashed labradors went after a leashed pitbull and started fighting. When the owner pulled them apart, the labs owner grabbed his dogs and hid in his house and was never heard from even after police knocked on his door. When the pitbulls owner pulled her dog off the labs, he attacked her arm.

So heres some comments-
Owning a pit-bull should be considered "probable cause" of thuggery. Warrants for all of you who think you need a "bada55 dog."
-
Ban the breed.
-
Many breeds of dogs besides pit bulls and rottweilers, no need to own them. There are lots of dangerous/potentially dangerous things we don't let people own--time to add these dogs to the list!
-
They're the canine equivalent of Africanized bees. They seem normal until they savagely attack something and it dies a horrible, painful death.

We legally have to carry poop bags(within the city of Seattle), so now maybe pitbull owners should have to carry crowbars, as well.
-
Ban 'em,... and their owners.
-

Shoot 'em on sight, like the vermin they are.

Seriously? What the hell is wrong with these people?

I lived on the outskirts of detroit my whole life. I've seen alot of pitbulls. NEVER have I ever seen a single aggressive one. All the ones I've seen are just the happiest loving dogs. But, I had to actually leave my house to see them. Because otherwise the only way I'd see them is on the news attacking people...The ones attacking people seem to be the only ones that make it onto the fucking news. Obviously.

The dog I have at home, my own dog, I know is more aggressive than any pitbull I've seen. Snapped at kids, has attacked two people (non serious attacks within our house). But because he's not a pit, no one would give him a second glance.

I was searching youtube for babies and pitbulls. found some cute videos. The dogs in the videos were obviously very patient with the babies, and no one was in danger. But, because it's a pitbull, people jump to conclusions, call them bad owners, etc etc. Just makes me sad to know that people can even feel such hatred towards an animal they don't even know.

Don't even get me started on rottweilers. They have got to have the worst misunderstood reputation out there, just because of their size and muscle.

I have seen many more aggressive and angry german shephards than I have most other dogs. >.>

If you look on ASPCA's website, most of the dogs listed are some sort of Pit Bull/mix. They only post the dogs that have been in for awhile and not adopted. It makes me so sad because I've known so many gentle pit bulls, and never have I known an aggressive one. One of my Huskys in Michigan is much more aggressive than any Pit I've met, but as Steph said, know one would look twice, in his case because he's so pretty.

I've also seen Pits that were great with kids and were actually quite protective. That's quite common with dogs raised with children, so it's not like those dogs would be more "dangerous" to someone else playing with the child.

People are fucking retarded. Yes, some dogs by nature are more aggressive- dogs have personalities and temperments too, but alot of how a dog will act is due to it's training. If you're a bad owner, than yes, your dog might be dangerous. Use common sense people.

The dogs are only aggressive if they were trained to be. I agree that they're no worse than any other dog. I think people just forget that EVERY pet is a wild animal. I mean look at the monkey who tore that ladies face off? It was domestic for many years but it just went wild.. (though it's to be expected when you give a monkey xanax)

As blabby stated, dogs (or any animal, for that matter) are only as aggressive as they were trained to be. It is purely idiotic to even suggest that some ban be put on the creatures themselves, when in fact is was the humans that originally bred and trained them to become fight dogs. In a scenario such as the one Mrs. Morris mentioned, no one can be blamed but the owners for poorly and irresponsibly handling and training their dogs.

I have to disagree with the part about dogs only being aggressive if they are trained to be. Yes, in large part that is true, but some dogs (especially puppy mill dogs) have genetic defects caused from inbreeding that make them unnaturally aggressive/have a bad temperament. It is also true that some dogs are very dog aggressive for no reason.

But the reverse it also true. Some trained-to-be aggressive dogs are actually not at all aggressive. On many pitbull raids, they are able to save a large percentage of pits from being put under and are able to adopt them out again. And these dogs are hard core trained to fight and be aggressive.

There is a bad rapport with pits because of the rappers trying to get status with these animals because they "look" tough after they cut off all of who they are, and dead-beats thinking it is fun to fight dogs for whatever reason.

Aggressive dogs can be trained to be socially acceptable. Not all seemingly aggressive dogs are indeed aggressive. And not all trained-to-be aggressive dogs are aggressive.

But some dogs (just like humans or any other animal) just are aggressive. And I am in no way implying that these "just are aggressive" dogs are pits, rottys, or any other stereotyped aggressive dog, but sadly some do fall under this category.

**edit**

But in this case, obviously the owner is in the wrong. She did not break up the dogs properly or she would (probably) have never been injured by her dog. You need to pull the dog away by the hind legs, wheel burrowing him out of the fray. This gives you distances from the mouth, you are able to control the dog better since they only have two legs now to stand on, and you are more easily able to dodge his snaps if he does turn around to fight off this new intrusion.

That is just a note for you guys here if your dog ever gets into a dog fight. (I know mine have since our high western terrier is a PoS to my rotty mix)

My friend has a pitbull puppy.. that he found on the side of the road.. because who knows why but someone abandoned the poor thing..

he's about 6 or 7 months old now and is the sweetest dog.

I mean, he likes to chew on my shoes...and eat the garbage.. and chew on me.. but what puppy doesn't? My grandma has a border collie puppy and she does the same things..

I honestly believe they aren't born monsters.

If their parents were made into monsters..and they are raised in that same environment.. its more likely they will grow up to be monsters as well..

but out of the two pit puppies that I know that have good, nice owners that take very good care of them... they are both very sweet dogs.

I don't know of any other pits, and if I did.. and the owner didnt take care of them like they should.. I would report them to the authorities.

Its actually really sad... because they might be banning pits in my area... so both one of my best friends and my cousin will lose their dogs... and its not fair because they will automatically be put to sleep

My husband's stepfather has a female Pit Bull. He got her after someone abandoned her. When I went to meet him and her both for the first time; I was warned that she could be aggressive and bite since he didn't know how she'd react to me.

Oh yeah... Aggressive for affection! She about knocked me over trying to LICK me to death. Then all she'd do is try and play, show me her favorite chewed up boot and lay around getting pet.

Hell, my hubby has owned Pits prior and all they are is big overgrown sweeties. We wanted to get one and as soon as we started looking for a breeder or a rescue in the area... A BREED SPECIFIC BAN is placed on where we live. No Pits allowed (as well some other breeds). There was a grandfather clause placed, but we couldn't find a puppy prior to the ban going into effect so we'd be grandfathered in. =/

I've met Pits on the street that is just as sweet and loving. I ask the owner if I could approach and pet (with any breed) first. So far all of them have said "Sure, they won't bite... Only maybe knock you down trying to play."

In short, its not the breed; Its the ownership.

They were bred to do dog fighting, it's in there nature to be agressive around other dogs, personally i dont have a problem with them.
