No they shouldn't have ratings. Monitor what your children are doing or turn of the tv if you don't want to watch it. It's as simple as that. The goverment shouldn't have to babysit you.

Alot of rap songs have sex related things in it and my cousin who is 7 adores those videos. (He probably has no idea whats going on in them. >>) I mean they should have some kind of ban against videos that have indecent exposure on tv.

I have to agree with another poster who said that they should have no ratings. Parents should monitor what their children are watching. It would also bring the parent, and child closer together. If I had kids, I'd make sure to stay involved with what they are doing; online and as they watch tv. Plus, I don't think placing a rating on videos would change anything. There are just too many to view and rate. It would be a serious waste of time for whomever had the job. And more money wasted for a position that's not needed.

The late great Frank Zappa had something to say about this in this youtube video.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=C5b8FxF-bXw

And I agree with him, 22 years later. It's the same bullshit. Putting ratings on music is bad for the music industry which is in the shitter as is. Want an example? With a movie, the actors getting paid x amount and you dont really get revenue until its released on DVD (generally sold to everyone) because so many studios invested in it and want a return on their investment.

On the other hand, with music or books, the artist RELIES on the sales because this is purely the artists work. To obscure their sales because of ratings is nonsense, and to say the government can judge/censor whoever they want and to trust them into coming up with a system - well, we trusted government with lots o shit, and none of it, cept maybe the postal system, ever worked.

He was talking about albums, not music videos. And we have the Parental Advisory label thanks to him.

Personally, I don't watch mtv or vh1 for these reasons. My sister does and I'm disgusted by what I see hew watching sometimes. Everything in the mass media is about sex and drugs and money and power, which is a large reason I don't listen to the radio.

For instance, I bought a CD collection for a girl I liked and decided to listen to it before I gave it to her. I found that it had a DVD with music videos on it, so I watched it....needless to say one of the videos almost got to nudity, so I decided not to give it to the girl.

BUT, despite my personal feelings, I think it should be up to the parents to monitor what their kids watch.
