GPoints: 3,368 Rep Power: 17 | Hancock Has anyone here seen this yes? I saw it like, two days ago, maybe?
Anyway, here's a brief series of thoughts about what I thought about it. I'm going to try and keep spoilers out, but I don't think I can make any promises. First off, I'm still confused as to what this was supposed to be. I figured it was going to be an action movie, but then a couple previews I saw said it was a "blockbuster comedy". Now, maybe it was an action comedy, but that's stupid. Pick one.
So I was already confused going into it, but whatever, I'm I fair person (lololololol), so I figured it couldn't hurt. And then I figured it out! The first half of the movie was comedy, and the second part was action. Score! So it turns out it actually was an action comedy. Still stupid, but I was less confused.
I'll break this part into two. The first half of the movie was awesome. It was almost amazing actually. The character was great, for one thing, and the concept in and of itself was superb, if for nothing else than the fact that it took a different approach to the super hero...thing. A lot of movies just don't portray super heroes that don't give a damn. That and the fact that Smith can actually be fairly humorous combined to make magic for the first ~50 minutes.
But the problems I have are with the second half of the movie. And oh how numerous they are. First off, at the most basic level, the plot went from awesome to terrible, conceptually anyway. This is for two main reasons. For one thing, it took all of the originality out into the back yard and shot it in the genitals. It took the unique approach to the "super hero" genre and decided that it would be a good idea to treat the rest of the movie just like every other super hero movie ever made ever.
So it wasn't original. That's certainly not a good thing, but it's not really a deal breaker. Not for me, at least. But the other glaring flaw with the latter half of the movie is with the plot itself. Beyond the unoriginality, it's almost like they didn't want to write a complete plot. Incredibly loose explanations were offered up and the elaboration that came several minutes later was just about as scarce. The result was a very loose string of connections that someone passed off as a plot. The basic concept was unoriginal, and any detailed story was severely lacking.
Overall, I'm not going to say that it was bad. It could have been worse, but it certainly wasn't good. I wouldn't bother going to see it.

When I heard of Hancock I thought it was going to be another shitty Spiderman, now what I liked about it was that it really did have comedy which is what I admire in most movies, but I really hated the Drama thing going on between the girl and him. They left us puzzled on how she said They were related, and she lied, the flaw in that was that some of us would be puzzled because the women never said she lied, of course all of that was cleared later in the story but still.
