[updated 4/15/2009] - Guide by:
Spin Downloads: spinwiisd.rar
(these are the files needed for this guide)
Requirements: a. The legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
b. SD Card with SD/Reader (can't be bigger than 2GB)
c. Nintendo Wii
d. Firmware 3.4u or lower! (3.2 perferred) but 3.4 works.. At the moment, 4.0 does not work.
How to Install Homebrew Channel: 0a. Download spinwiisd.rar and extract all the files into a folder.
1a. Copy all the files to ROOT of directory of SD card (so you have the same folders/files as the picture below.)
-

- (up above should be what your sd drive looks like after extraction)
1b. Click twilight hack, extract
beta 1 if you have
3.3u firmware or lower, extract
beta 2 if you have
3.4u, extract all to the private folder inside sd card root directory.
1c. Insert Twilight princess in the wii.
1d. Next, Insert your sd card in the wii.
1e. On the wii menu screen, click wii (bottom left) then click Data management. (it should default to the wii saves) Now delete your twilight princess save (if one exists, if not make a new game and make a new save) Next, click SD at the top of the screen and copy the USA version of the hack. It will now automatically copy over to the wii.
1f. Load up twilight princess and click on the (0) save.
1g. Once the game loads, Move backwards until the application starts up.
1h. The homebrew installer should now be up on the screen, read carefully and follow the directions (mostly just pressing reset on the wii console 4 or 5 times..)
1j. Once that is over it will ask you to restart the wii, then you will have a new channel on the wii called Homebrew Channel.
How to install DVDx and Play Backups "homebrew channel must first be installed" 2a. Click the homebrew channel and click start.
2b. Install DVDX (follow the instructions on the screen)
2c. Click WAD MANAGER 1.3 inside homebrew and load up it
2d. Next is easy, just install 1 thru 8 on the wads (to install press the + key start and A on the wiimote to continue (choose 6a instead of 6b)
(restart the wii after all 8 are installed - should take no more than 5minutes to do all 8)
2f. Restart the wii by pressing [home] on the wiimote. After it reboots go back into wad manager to install one last thing. (
cIOS249 rev8.wad)
What do I do now?
Well, now you have the ability to install all .wad files such as Virtual Console and WiiWare. As well the ability to play DVDs (movies) and of course.. "Backups"
I've "backed-up" over 30+ Wii games, all working.
Tips on "backing" up games 1. .iso's work the best
2. burn with imgburn or nero (what I use)
3. burn on high quality DVD
-R's not DVD
+R's (I use verbatim DVD-R's)
4. when burning, burn at a
MAX of
4x write speed, I burn all of mine at
2x.
5. Burning any higher will result in horribly slow load times and choppy cut scenes.
