GPoints: 21 Rep Power: 6 | Pest Control (Requested Guide) Pest Control: The Guide Recently I have noticed an influx of RuneScape users who do not know what Pest Control is or how it is played. I know that most people do, but there are some out there who do not know, mainly users new to members, or those who have stumbled upon it. This is my guide to help those users understand how things work in the world of PC. Index:
1) How To Get There
2) Weapons and Armor
3) The Playing Field
4) Void Knight
5) Monsters
6) Portals
7) Range Towers
8) Gates and Repair
9) Pest Control Points and Rewards
10) Conclusion Part 1: How to get there. Most people know how to get there, but in the event you don't know, here is what you do. In Port Sarim, west of Draynor and South-East of Falador, there is a set of docks that most know about from quests or just going there. While on a members server, get on the docks and go all the way south. There is a Squire in black robes walking around, speak to him. He will give a few options, but you want to pick the one that says "I'd like to go to your Outpost" Once you get to the island, there is a bank, general store, magic shop, smithing area and an archery shop. To the south, you will see a small dock and then a boat (called a lander here) with a mini-game symbol in it. That is where you go to play the game itself. Part 2: Weapons and Armor You can use any weapons or armor you like here. Don't worry about taking food or other such things with you, if you die, you don't lose anything. It is recommended though, that you have the best weapons and armor you can have/afford at the time as it makes the fight a little easier for your team. (Note: Many people use the Pest Control area to buy/sell weapons and armor, so be on the lookout if there is an item you want.) Part 3: The Playing Field Pest Control is in two areas, separated by a wall with three gates. Inside the gates are the Void Knight, the Lander, and the ranging towers. As you run from the boat, you can go south, west or east. In the center of the gated area is a stone foundation with a Void Knight on it; further south is a gate that leads to two portals. To the west lies a portal and to the east lies another portal. The entire island is surrounded by water. Part 4: Void Knight This Knight is the most important part of the game, if he dies, the battle is lost. On the upper left part of your screen you will see his lifeline, it is the top one with a squiggly line in it. He starts out with 200 and continues down as the game is played due to monster attacks. He can be ranged by the monsters or attacked directly by monsters that appear on the stone foundation with him. It is always a good idea to have some people at the foundation to kill the monsters and help keep him safe from attacks. His lifeline will be green when he is in good health, when it goes red; he is in danger of being killed. The sword below his health is the amount of damage you have dealt and under that is the time left in the game. Part 5: Monsters There are a few monsters in PC that you should know about.
First off is Shifters, these are monsters that appear on the foundation to attack the Void Knight, they have different colors that signify a different combat level.
Second is Defliers, these come from the portals and are a pain as they can range you by spinning around and throwing spikes at your character, and their levels vary.
Third is Torchers, which shoot tiny balls of red magic at you, most of the time they hit small but they can become annoying as they use their attack to hit the Void Knight.
Fourth is Splatters, these look like bouncy balls with eyes, their main function is to self-destruct and destroy the gates keeping the monsters from reaching the Void Knight.
Fifth is Brawlers, these are big long nosed monsters that use melee attacks on you and can hit pretty hard at times if you are a low level, in my experience they aren't that much of a threat unless you are a lower level.
Sixth is Ravagers that tend to cause heavy damage to the gates, but against players they aren't that strong.
Last is one of the most important and annoying monsters to watch out for. The Spinners. These things look like jellyfish, but their role is to heal the portals while you attack. It is always a good idea to attack one as soon as it appears and finish if off before it has a chance to heal the portal. Many players will yell and alert you to Spinners you may not have seen, as I stated before, kill them as soon as you can. Part 6: Portals Now comes the fun part, the illustrious portals of Pest Control. There are four of these in total: purple, red, yellow and blue. Most players will tell you to attack purple and blue first, as they are the hardest; I find them to be different depending on what players are attacking them. Purple is to the west, red is to the southwest, yellow is to the southeast and blue is to the east. At the beginning of the game in the right part of the screen it will show you the four colors and the lifeline of the portals that starts at 250 and goes down as your team attacks them. They can be poisoned, so it is a good idea to bring your poisoned weapon along with you as well as your main weapon. When a portal is destroyed, some people say the Void Knight gains 60hp, I will be checking this out as soon as I go back to play. Part 7: Range Towers There are four ranging towers on the playing field, and you must be inside the gates to climb into them. They are located to the Northwest, Northeast, Southwest, and Southeast. Some people use them, but don't be fooled, some monsters can still attack you even while you are up there in the towers, just be careful because no place is truly safe in this game. Part 8: Gates and Repair This is something that can and will get some people very very upset while playing the game. Most players demand that the gates be shut as soon as all portal attackers are outside the gates. I have to agree on this, the gates must be closed, as they are there to keep the monsters from getting to the Void Knight. They can, however, be destroyed, which is where this part comes in. If you wish, you can bring an axe and a hammer with you to the island. Of course you use the axe to cut some logs and then run to the gates that need repair. It may seem like a waste of time, but it can mean the difference between victory and defeat sometimes. Part 9: Pest Control Points and Rewards Now this is the main reason people come to play Pest Control, besides the money you get for winning a round. Each time your team wins a game and you have participated well, you will gain one PC point and some gold. PC points can be cashed in for attack, strength, defense, ranged, magic, hitpoints, or prayer experience points. You can get them one at a time or save up 100 PC points and cash them in. Be aware that you cannot have over 250 PC points at a time, and if you cash in your points at 100, there is an extra 10% exp given to you. Also, you can calculate how much gold and exp you will get, I will show you how. For gold, take your combat level (I'll use mine, which is 82) and multiply it by 10 (82x10=820), which means I get 820 coins at 82 combat. For exp you take your level in the skill of your choice and square it (my attack is 70 so I'll use that as an example) (70x70=4900) then divide it by 6 (4900/6=817) If you choose Prayer, you divide it by 12 instead of by 6. You can also purchase Void Knight outfits one piece at a time, an herb pack, mineral pack, or a seed pack. I typically use mine on the skills, mainly prayer as it is the hardest to level unless you have a supply of dragon bones in the bank. Note: To wear the Void Knight armor you need 42 attack, strength, defense, HP, ranged and magic as well as a prayer level of 22 or more. Part 10: Conclusion I hope that this guide, small as it may be, has helped or will help someone with one of my favorite mini games. If there is another guide you would like me to make, or if something in this one is wrong or not easy to understand, please inform me. I will be more than happy to fix anything in this guide that needs fixing, thank you for taking the time to read it.
