GPoints: 1,091 Rep Power: 4 | internet connectivity problem Okay, so here's the situation. We have a cable modem with a wireless router. Two computers are hooked into the router by ethernet. One is my dad's and he is running XP. The other is my mom's and she's on Vista. Me and my brother connect using wireless on Vista. The problem is, sometimes one computer will just lose connectivity. It will say that there is limited connectivity or only local connectivity. SOmetimes the Vista computers will get a message about an IP address conflict. Disconnecting and reconnecting usually doesn't help and neither does turning the wireless ability off and then on again. Resetting the modem sometimes helps, and sometimes we have to unplug the router and modem for a couple minutes. That almost always does it. However, that is a pain in the butt to knock everyone off the internet just because one person lost connectivity. And when my parents are playing EQ, they won't do it for me until they are done.
Does anyone know how to fix this? In depth details would be nice. +rep for those that help

The wireless ones or the Ethernet ones or do they all knock-out?
Your router might not be configured right or there is something wrong with your network card's.

Are they connected by cables or a USB?
I use a USB and it works for me. Now, I heard cable should be better....But, I don't see what's wrong....If, you used a USB I might be able to help since I had the same problem.

GPoints: 1,091 Rep Power: 4 | All the computers keep knocking out to my knowledge, though I think the one on XP might not.
Except for the ones on wireless, they are all using ethernet cables. I was not aware you could use USB for internet.

GPoints: 26 Rep Power: 2 | The wireless ones are using an Ethernet Cable? How is that possible?
If it is only the one for Vista it could be a problem needing patched.
I had a look on google: Windows Vista cannot obtain an IP address from certain routers or from certain non-Microsoft DHCP servers
or
Disable Tcpip v6. Go to Connection Properties and disable it.
I don't know where Connection properties is as I don't use Vista.
