GPoints: 401 Rep Power: 5 | Sharing internet question The computer i'm using right now is an Imac, hooked up to the internet through a modem called a surfboard.
What i was wondering was, is it possible to take the internet plug out of the mac, and plug it into my pc to have the internet work on it? I don't want to have to pay for two internet connections, and i dont mind switching out the cable
I tried to get it to work with my laptop, no dice. Am i setting up the connection wrong, or is it just impossible?
Also, to clarify. I have the mac, which is currently internetted, a PC, and a laptop
Many thanks,
~Pat

GPoints: 2,151 Rep Power: 10 | if you have a broadband connection it should work (presuming it's a ethernet cable). what's the harm in trying anyways?
also to use your internet on multiple computers (unless its dial-up), you can just get a router and have computers connect wirelessly or have multiple computers connected via multiple ethernet cables.
tell me how much of that made sense to you...

GPoints: 2,151 Rep Power: 10 | well that's werid. does your mom know that not all routers are wireless ones? and you could just buy one of those (which is a lot cheaper).
otherwise, unplugging it from your mac and plugging it into your pc should work

GPoints: 401 Rep Power: 5 | its not so much the though of the router being harmful.
she's paranoid that by installing it, i'll kill her computer. Its stupid, and untrue, but arguments don't work.

GPoints: 109 Rep Power: 122 | kill her computer? you don't have to install anything, all of them are plug and play the only thing you do is put in login information (if you are using dsl) or setup a passkey (unless you want anybody on your network)
did you try turning it off/on before or after you plugged in the pc computer?

If so, then yes it will work.
You just have to configure settings on your pc | |
