GPoints: 44,025 Rep Power: 100 | Storing files externally I have upwards of 5000 pictures on my computer, and I bet it takes up a lot of space. So I figure I should put them on something external, but what?
I need suggestions for the best thing to store files externally on.

Do you know how much space it is actually using? You could also burn them onto DVDs. Are these your SLR pics? Cause those can end up taking quite a bit of space. I guess, I'd say that either you should maybe invest in an external hard drive (if you're only going to use it for pics, than it doesn't have to be very big) or burn them to DVDs as they start to accumulate.

I was considering CDs, but I don't know how many I could fit per CD, and it could end up leaving me with a lot of discs.

Normal pictures don't take up very much room, it's only once you get into high quality pics that it starts costing you storage space. (My pictures folder is less than 3gb and it has over 7000 files). So, if you burned to CD, you would probably end up with about 4-5 CDs would be my guess.

GPoints: 108,627 Rep Power: 28 | Basically, agreed with everyone else on the external hard drive. Buy one of the little portable ones. I have one myself, I forgot how big it was, but I had SEVERAL things back home that I wanted to take with me off my parents computer, and this thing held all of that and it only took up a very minute amount of space.
Which, is another reason it's so convenient. I can fit this thing in my pocket, it's about the size of an Ipod touch, a little bigger and thicker. It holds 150gb, and I forgot how much it costs, but I'm pretty sure I payed less than $200 for it. I have a ton of crap on there, and it takes up about 7gb of space. Now it's safe even if my computer crashes, or anything.
And, I like it better than those hunky external hard drives, like this one my husband has, because that thing has to plug in to an outlet when he uses it. @_@ Very annoying.
