Verizon? Modem? $$?

So, I got my cousin's computer and I tried to get internet on it with a router but it didn't work. So, I was thinking to get another modem attached to the other computer so I can get internet from it. But, the question is can I just get another modem from a friend/store, plug it in, and get internet access or is there a special step I have to do to get internet from that modem? Post links/guides to help me, please. Or, anything straight from your brain.

it depends how you have your own internet setup. you're trying to plug in another computer into your already existing network?

you only need 1 modem, ever. you can either just plug the computer in by ethernet cable or by a wireless card and if you network is secured enter the credentials and you should be ready to go.

One into the port on the modem, one into the computer.

Also, buy a router.
It makes everything easier.

you modem must be really really old cause mine is a wireless modem/router combo. if its just only a modem you can only have 1 connection unless you get a router to split the connection(s)

i don't think you can plug in any additional modem from any unused jack to a modem/computer.

My modem is wired, only. And it's only a couple months old.

Sim, I did buy a router. For, some reason it couldn't set up on my computer which was fucking irritating.

kore, should I buy a new modem? or another modem? And, will it add more money to my bill if I buy another modem and add it to my network?

it couldn't setup? did you follow the instructions or call verizon? or don't you have a nerd friend/cousin who can do it for you? its not hard, phonejack -> modem -> router -> computer(s)

its PPPoE so i believe you need login details for verizon though even though i never entered them on my own router but i could if i wanted to.

Yes, I stuck there too. I don't know what my dad used for the username or password so I need to call them.

Also, its a linksys router and I bought it so I don't think I can call a verizon nerd for that...But, can I?
