"The Haven Award is the highest level of recognition available for writers on Gaming Gutter. It is awarded to those members on a monthly basis via nominations and then voting and judging. Haven Award winners are nominated for outstanding contributions through above average writing. Members who have one this award show that they have a significant mastery of the written arts."
This is the way it will work. Anyone who wishes to nominate a candidate for the Haven Award should PM me. In that PM, they should include the username of the nominee along with a link to something outstanding that the nominee has contributed. At the end of every month, I will post a thread containing a poll. That poll will have all of the Haven Award nominees. Members will vote publicly on which nominee they think should win the award. The top two will then enter a judging stage, in which a panel of judges reviews their work and determines which one, if any, should win the award.
This will not be an easy thing; I plan on hand picking judges who I know can approach this from a critical angle. You should not nominate someone unless you think they are an outstanding writer.
In the future, I may or may not introduce other levels of recognition. However, I hope this system encourage people to submit work to the Writer's Haven.

Writers, on the other hand, tend to write mostly for their own benefit, either intellectual or financial or otherwise. However, while I don't think a formal group would go over too well, I do like the idea of a regular group of writers who primarily is active in this forum. My image for the Writer's Haven is as an alternative to other forums like General Discussion, Spamzville, or Entertainment rather than a supplement.
@lil: Thanks! I'm also going to be planning a couple season oriented contests coming up, and hopefully attract some participation from other areas of the site. A sort of spring festival.
