Dune-peppered plaster pulses fade
Lingering lenses in the mirror slow

And for a few quiet minutes
All I can hear
Is the serpentine beat
Of a floor bass

Disintegrating diamonds of the real world
Vanish with the ink-blot outlines

I lay flat, snaking
Across the ground
Longing only
For the velvet water bottle

The air returns, smoke free
Spiraling flakes of ash still clinging

To the walls
and dull floor
Of your dingy apartment
Paradise on earth

And for lingering, twilight, half-light hours
Count now down to three

I can still feel
the evanescent vestiges
Of half-days lost
And memories faded
