| As I said in my earlier post, I read the first one and it was too much like other stories of the genre. Plagiarism in nice terms, I suppose.
I don't think that that was his intention, I think that he merely wrote as young people often do. Having been exposed to much less than an adult counterpart, he had less to incorporate into his stories and therefore a few very major author's storylines stood out very much. Had he been older, maybe he would have used less from a couple sources of ideas and more from others making it more balanced. I'm not arguing for stealing here, I'm simply saying that most things have been written about already. There is very little out there that could be written and not contributed to some past writing. And writers often get their ideas from things that they have read and seen, so that's natural.
My opinion on the book is that he didn't draw me in at all. As I read it, all I could think was that was from LOTR, that was from Harry Potter, and yes, that was from Star Wars, etc. It's not interesting to me if I feel like I've read the entire story already.
