Vampires burst into flames and die in the sunlight and they sure as all hell don't fall in love with humans, and if they do fall in love with humans, the human dies or the Vampire dies. Vampires drink human blood because they are driven to it and they don't drink animal blood.
Twilight took Anne Rice's vampires, Bram Stoker's legendary Dracula, and the way vampires are portrayed and turned them into a six part mastabatory aid for teens.
I know that I can't be the only one that thinks Twilight is a blight on literature.
What do you guys think? | |

GPoints: 444 Rep Power: 14 | Not all fictitious vampires burst into flames. In some novels, they turn to stone or shrivel.
Anyway... Twilight is okay. I consider it to be more of a middle school-age appropriate novel, as I assume high schoolers should be mature enough to appreciate real literature, like Anne Rice's older novels, or the original Dracula. It's not that it's a horrible series, I just think that some of the details could have been fine-tuned a bit. Creative? Yes. Beneficial to literature in any way? No.
But I'm a hypocrite, as I read Harry Potter, and (even though I'll end up hating it) am waiting for the next movie to come out.

But I'm a hypocrite, as I read Harry Potter, and (even though I'll end up hating it) am waiting for the next movie to come out. | I'm not going to lie, I am a 22 year old man, and I watch the Harry Potter movies and read the books, and you really can't compare Potter and Twilight. The Twilight series relies on teen hormones to sell, Harry Potter relied on people in general, not just hormone driven teenagers, to sell, which is why people loved the Potter books so much, they offered an escape that any person can enjoy and helped change literature for people. All Twilight has really done is make another book overly popular, and that no one will ever shut up about.
All I hear at work is people talking about Twilight, and how great it is, and I think of how stupid the series is and how stupid the premise is.
If you are a young teen and you want to read it, but if you are older then 17 and you read it, you need help. If you are 17 you should read some real books like Catcher in the Rye, or Of Mice and Men, something like that.

It is hardly a horror novel, the only thing that puts on the inside edge of being one is the presense of vampires in the novel, if you can really call those vampires.
If you read the "book," and I use the term loosely, you will not be readin literature but a bastardized, aborted form of literature.

From what people tell me the only real action is the fight scene and a vampire or something gets his head ripped off. Not really that much action.

GPoints: 561 Rep Power: 2 | I think it's a terrible book in the sense that, when you describe it...WTF is the only thing that comes to mind.
But reading it is so fun (I bought it almost as a joke and then couldn't put it down...ah)
