Story (7/10): At the beginning your just a small boy living with his parents and your sister. The game starts off you with dozing off on your deck then your father prods you about a birthday gift for your sister. Saying he won't bail you out this time but he will give you one gold coin for every good deed you do around town. After doing Good Deeds or Evil Deeds to collect money you buy your sister some chocolate. After bringing them to her your sister mentions a vision she had and then as you start going home bandits raid the village. Hiding out through the ordeal you emerge into the village lit afire with corpses strewn aside everywhere. You run back to your house to find you father laying dead on the ground. A bandit charges you suddenly and suddenly a lightning bolt strikes him down. Behind the Bandit a mysterious man named Maze walks up and takes you off to the Heroes Guild. Where your journey as a Hero begins.
So the story is nothing special. If your like me even during your first playthrough your not going to be entranced by it and the shortness is a downer too. Most of the games story will be divulged in between quest with mosaics and narration. Giving it a weird story telling feel. This is just your typical revenge plot involving your sister with a possible sinister twist in the end. The game is about the choice between good and evil.
Controls (9/10): The combat was easy and simplistic yet could still prove fun for hardcore gamers and newcomers alike. The melee combat primarily was used on the X button where predetermined combo's based on your equipped weapon size would happen and then a special flourish move which did more damage then a regular attack and broke guards was controlled on the B button. Ranged attack with a bow could be auto-targeted or self-targeted though you'll only use self-targeted if your sniping enemies from a far because in close range combat you become a sitting duck. Your given a roll for dodging attack and a block button both on the button just while holding dodge you move the analog stick. Magic I had the worse trouble with, the more spells you have the harder it is to select the spells you want to use. Eventually it always just comes down to using the three same spells because in the middle of slaughtering the town guard I don't want to be worried if the spell I'm using rains down fire upon my foes or if I'm going to active ghost arrows or some useless spell.
Graphics (10/10): The graphics are good, especially for an Xbox game even after playing modern RPG's and then going back to Fable I feel no disappointment in how things look. Not only are the graphics good but they give a feel with there architecture and weapons that you'll never mistake for another game.
Sound/Music (10/10):Personally I love the music! The Fable theme is one of my favorite video game theme musics and ranging from combat, which is too fast paced to get pay attention to almost, to roaming about town which needs good sound for how often I'd sit around drunk harrassing children and barmaids!
Replayability (10/10): Ignoring all the different story affecting choices your given throughout the game, which will definitely make you want to do at least 2 or 3 replays, you can change how your character is completely! You can do a pure melee, range, or magic character and then break it down to you being good, evil, or neutral! The repalyability in this game is amazing and will make up for how short the story is.
Game-play (10/10): They gave so many things to do that it's always refreshing to go back and give it a shot! Ranging from a simplistic fun combat system, to getting drunk and participating in pub games or the fight club, or sneaking into shops and stealing valuable weapons and armor and selling it back to the owner. Your bound to find a way you want to play this game and that you'll enjoy.
Overall Score (9/10): A must buy for anyone who plays RPG's. This game has a variety of features you'll never find in nearly any other RPG or at the very least all in one and with the incredibly cheap prices you can get this game used theres very near to no reason not to at least give it a try if you love RPG's.
