For Ontario/Quebec, Belairdirect would be the cheapest insurance. Lets say I own a 1993 Nissan 300ZX (sports car). My insurance with Belairdirect would range from 198 to 330 a month. Me, 17, male, no previous insurance, drivers ed training.
198/month: 500,000 liability, no collision insurance, no accident insurance. If I got into an accident thats my fault, I would have to pay for all the repairs on both cars, as collision isn't covered. If a tree falls down on my car or something similar, I would have to pay for it as theres no accident insurance. The liability is a bit confusing for me, I *think* if the other people get injured, and requires any rehab or hospitalization or something, I'm covered up to 500,000 for their expenses, anything more comes out of my pockets. This might be wrong, not sure.
330/month: 2,000,000 liability, 0$ collision, 0$ accident. This means if I do anything, even a scrath, a pebble cracks your windshield etc you can get them to pay for it. this is the highest possible coverage you can get, but if you abuse it like that, it will go up, by a LOT.
236/month: 2,000,000 liability, no collision, 0$ accident. Highest liability coverage, if I get into an accident I caused, I'm screwed. But, if you know how to drive and aren't a moron, you wont get into an accident thats your fault, so this isn't needed. 0$ accident. If any damage happens to my car thats NOT by a collision (tree falling, rocks flying, vandalism, acts of god, your little sister etc) exceeds 0$, the insurance can pay for it. However, if its a cheap repair, its best paid by you because your insurance will go up if you use it.
Lets say I have 500$ accident insurance. If any of the things covered by it exceeds 500$, insurance can pay for it. If its less than 500$, I would pay for it. So the higher the deductible, the lower the insurance because your covered less. The collision/accident insurance can be: not covered, 0$, 300$, 500$ and 1000$.
Sure, the insurance is cheaper, but you might be paying a hell of a lot more in repairs.
