i kinda want to learn shit

so yeah, i have tons of free time and i was reading a thread about someone asking how to view php source and seeing all you nerds reply made me jealous that i didn't understand anything of what was going on and so i want to learn.

heres a vague list of stuff that i've seen or have used already. in the parenthesises is how i've come to hear about them)

cheat engine (not sure if this falls into its own category, edits hex/memory addresses or something)
macros (scar, autoit, and i think there was another one called attools or something, not sure)
c++ (i don't really see this language mentioned anymore unless i'm not paying attention)
vb (various simple cheating programs i've found on the interwebs)
internetspeak (html, css, javascript, php, etc)
java (can't think of an example off the top of my head)
perl (what was needed to operate my kore bot back in the old days of ro)
python (what was needed to run terrys autofisher)

what would be, so-to-speak, a "gateway" language? i'm thinking vb would be the best for starting off but i'm not sure.

halp?

Nah, don't feel bad. Your list owns my list.
HTML (only in a wysiwyg editor with code hints)
Action script, Javascript, PHP (only that which has a tutorial on Google)

btw. Can you please close that PHP source viewing thread so I can stop making a fag out of myself in it? It has pretty much been answered by the pros that you can't view it's source... and I mean and I'm just getting owned left and right.

If you go the the adult nonfiction section of a library, you can find some pretty good books about programming, (call numbers 1.000 to about 30.000). I only know that, because I work in a library. I feel like getting a library card and checking out some of the "for dummies" books and learn a little bit myself. They got like about every programming language that I ever heard of like Perl for Dummies, Java for Dummies, etc.

VB is shit.
Best way to go is C++ or Python.

But it depends what you want to make. Like programs or website scripts.

VB's really fucking easy though. I'm working on C++, and, given, if you're careful, it's not hard at all to get most of it down, but VB is just easier to start out on. It's just, C is ten thousand times better.

~Cheat Engine is Hex Editting, fun to do, but it's not really programming.
~AutoIt is really fucking useful in terms of what it's made to do. But it's a little ehhhh, I like it, though.
~Perl I forget compeltely.
~Internet speakz I won't even comment on
~As for Java, I've seen some pretty cool shit done with in it. But I know to master it as a whole the size of the language is almost mind boggling. But most of what I've seen done with this has to do with networking stuff. But you can do sooo much with Java, but it probably shouldn't be your first one.
~In regards to Python, you can learn it I guess, but there's no real point because anything you can do in Python you can probably do better somewhere else.

vb isn't a gateway language because it has its own syntax and is similar to nothing.

PHP, javascript, c++ and more have all similar syntaxs. not the same, just similar.
But it all depends what you want to do.

If you want to make game cheating programs. vb is the way to go, its easy, quick to lern and the syntax is very basic.

If you want to actually make a career out of it... PHP, java, or C++ just depends what you want to do.

PHP is handy... I only recently learned it and glad I did. Its pretty easy.

PHP is the best way to start learning I'd say.

PHP. Install WAMP on your computer (you can find the download to it via google). After, learn it. You can find a good tutorial on w3schools.com.

I started with PHP (unless you count HTML haha), but if I could take it back I'd go with Java.

Java has an extremely powerful repository of pre-made code for you to use so you can concentrate on the more difficult aspects of your program. If you run into any problems then the JavaDocs are only a couple of clicks away. Not only that, but you are taught Object Oriented Programming right from the start as opposed to procedural. When I first started, I was like OOP??? Why the hell do you need OOP...humans don't think in this way, it's just a bunch of bs. But now I can't really live without it, and I even use PHP5 for all my PHP scripts now. It's all worth it.

The LANGUAGE isn't all that hard to master, but the true test of a great coder is how well they've mastered the API for optimal efficiencey. Reinventing the wheel is generally frowned upon in Java. In terms of API mastery, I personally feel that I'm nowhere near anything above the newbie level, but I learn something new every day =)

After Java comes C/C++, but there's no reason to go beyond Java if all you want to do is bot Neopets. Also, Java can be run on multiple platforms without the need for finding all those .ocx or .dll files like you would have to in a language like VB. And with IDEs like NetBeans on the horizon, GUI creation couldn't get easier (although I recommend you develop GUIs without an IDE in the beginning.)

DON'T DO VB JUST BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE SAYING IT'S EASY...YOU WILL FUCK YOURSELF OVER IN THE ASS!!!
