Ever wanted to find someone's IP address? It's none of my business why you would, but if you ever do, then this is a simple method.
First, there are many ways of doing this, basically you're establishing a connection with another computer while sending or receiving a file from someone over MSN. With the help of a connections' tracking program or simply your command prompt, you can determine the IP and opened port of your contact.
To do this, you need to decide how you're going to view TCP connections. Although you can do this in terminal or command prompt (with the netstat command) I prefer using the program Cports. Cports is an opensource program, you can find tons of mirrors online with a simple google search.
The program's interface looks like this:
It's a very simple setup, and the only two things you need to be concerned with for the purpose of this guide are the refresh button and the remote address.
(1) Open cports BEFORE establishing a connection via MSN/AIM (very likely this works for other IMs but I haven't tested those)
(2) Try to get a big file, sending or recieving works equally well.
(3) Hit refresh, and look for new connections (they will be highlighted in orange, and the timestamp will obviously be newer
Usually that connection will be at the very bottom of the list, to make it easier for you, but it could definately show up in the middle or toward the top too.
