GPoints: 4,191 Rep Power: 7 | RTSG Players? Hey guys,
Looking to find out who all here are Real Time Strategy Game players. I am involved with a production company that's working on creating a console-based (PC port likely) RTSG and I have been tasked for collecting data from gamers to see what features and such people are looking to see in a RTSG. So yeah, if you'd be interested in helping me with this project I would appreciate it, just post here.
Thanks,
Karn

GPoints: 7,418 Rep Power: 17 | I play RTSGs. For me, I like how some characters have their own special features like in RedAlert 3. I also LOVE the building system of Red Alert 3.
If I were looking for a new RTSG right now, I would look for one which has the best phisics system, because I believe, most current ones are missing that.
I love how you can control the warthogs in Halo Wars, and they drift just like they would in the halo and halo 2. I also love how they can jump through the cliffs, while other veacles has to find another way. It makes the strategy thinking more important then earning money, then mass sending only one unit and just outnumber the enemy.
I do not like games with a lot of currencies. Like Warcraft 3. I do not want to bother with Wood, Gold, and Food. There should be only Gold, or minerals, or what ever.
I do like the group army units, like axis and allies. when you produce troopers, 5-6 come out as a group, and when you pick one, all group is picked, and they move together. It seems more realistic!
The notification thing should not talk alot, while I am playing. It is fine to repeat "Your base is under attack" for 2 times, maximum 3, but then, it starts to get pain in the ass D:
I mean hell, OK I GET IT ALREADY!!
I think these are all for myself... I will add more if I have more...
Sorry for any spelling mistakes.... and puncuation... | |

GPoints: 3,424 Rep Power: 7 | I haven't played Red Alert, but if the building system is anything like Starcraft/Warcraft, then i have to agree. However, i must disagree on the currency part. If there is only one type of currency (gold) it would be extremely easy to mass produce everything, and then where would be the strategy in that? Food, or limit production in my opinion is extremely important due to the fact that you actually have to think of what your building, instead of just massing the strongest unit out there.
The most important aspect that i like about rtsg is the fact that you need to micro your units, instead of just sending everything to one location and forgetting about it. Also, i think that there should be at least 3 different types of classes (balanced of course), It makes the game much less predictable (similar to the concept of rock, paper, scissors).
Therefore, i like rtsg where you need to micro, has a unit limit, has more then 1 type of resource, and has at least 3 different types of races/classes that are well balanced.

GPoints: 7,418 Rep Power: 17 | Or maybe you can have a unit limit system based on your base building's level?
Could be cool... | |

GPoints: 8,964 Rep Power: 14 | Before you decide what features the game should display,
I think you should pick out a main idea, or theme.
Like in C&C:RA and all it's sequels&expansions it revolved around historical warfare,
Age of Mythology focused on warfare with the gods of mythology,
Age of Empires focused on warfare& expanding your empire
WarCraft II was like C&C and AoM, only cartoon-ish and focused on fantasy.
All of these things revolve around a theme.
You should come up with a theme first,
then ask for various features and whatnot.
Asking for features before you announce a theme,
is like making a sandwich by putting the meat, cheese and other dressing together before you slap it on the bread.

>.> | The game is based on a book which is going to movie soon, I will check what details I am allowed to inform ya'll of but rest assured that there is already a theme. I will say I anticipate interesting balancing issues because there are fun issues involving magic-posessing old-timers (so to speak) versus modern time technology... it'll be an interesting thing to work on.

if we don't know exactly what it is we're dealing with?
What I'm about to propose is all theoretical,
so keep that in mind when I explain what I'm trying to get across.
Say if you were going to create a game like C&C:RA or AoM,
but it was going to be entirely old western (realistic) related,
Like taking it back to Cowboys and Indians.
You wouldn't want to hear ideas based on a magical/fantasy idea.
You'd want to know what kind of cavalry to implement,
or how strong of an effect a raindance would have on the enemy.
(Yes, I know that touches on the whole magical shit, but... >.> They did and still do believe in that sorta thing)
If it so happens that you can release a little bit of info,
I'll be more than happy to help provide ideas and the like.

Its kinda complicated, I'll find out what I can tell you ASAP, I was mostly looking for volunteers to help with the info. Thanks!
