I've got avast for viruses and shit, but people say you need another program to run with it to catch spyware and shit. There was a specific program, but I forget the name.

If there's something that can't be deleted, you can choose to restart your computer and before windows is done loading, spybot will come up and give you the option to scan for it. I've found it to be extremely useful. I had to use this nifty little feature last weekend when my computer was running like an obese man because I torrented too much stuff.
