GPoints: 900 Rep Power: 4 | So.... I started work yesterday. Luckily I don't have any classes of my own yet so they had me just spend like 15 minutes in every classroom per class period and talk to the kids etc. Well, they don't speak much English (what a surprise considering that's what they are there to learn, right?). But even so, the whole program is kind of a joke. The older kids didn't know much more than the younger ones. I was kind of weird because, whenever they didn't know how to say something, or even just because of natural tendencies, they would talk in Korean to the teacher. And being as there was alot being said, the teacher would translate a small portion of it. Well, I think that some of the kids were trying to hook me and one of the other teachers up lol. A couple of his classes would ask me if I had a boyfriend, and when I said no, they would get all loud and say a bunch of stuff to the teacher which would then in turn, make him blush. It was kind of amusing.
Okay, so 8 people viewed this thread, but no one wants to talk to me. I see how it is.

GPoints: 900 Rep Power: 4 | They have books that are full of very easy English dialogues, complete with pictures (though the pics aren't great). I am trying to learn some Korean on my own, but it's very difficult because there are some very subtle sounds in the lanugage that are hard to reproduce if you're not used to hearing them. It might actually be better for them to learn since it will force them to speak English. From what I noticed yesterday, they revert to Korean whenever possible, and many of them kept asking why they had to speak in English-well because you're in an English class lol.

GPoints: 900 Rep Power: 4 | I'm working in a hagwon (an English institute) for kids in a suburb of Seoul in Korea. At least I think it's a suburb. It's interesting because the city is very built up and there's alot of construction going on but it's not really a big city if that makes sense. I've got a few pics from my apartment, they're here hpstranger86/Apartment - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting.
I'm liking it here. Everyone is really nice, and I'm getting much better at understanding them. They seem to be doing everything they can to make me happy, even much more than I'd expect. The special attention is a little weird sometimes though. Like they Are going to give me an hour break everyday starting this week (I totally didn't ask for it, and I'm going to use the time to study Korean), but yeah. It would be kind cool if something happened between me and the teacher. He's very nice and kind of cute, and the accent is totally growing on me lol. It wasn't like the kids had a drawn out conversation about it lol. They are pretty young. It was just kinda like what kids do. "Oh you're single? Teacher you're single too. You should date." lol. THat sort of thing. It was funny though cuz he blushed.
