GPoints: 1,501 Rep Power: 4 | So has anyone been hearing about Detroits mayor? Dude, this is just getting fucking ridiculous. I don't know how on earth he still has his position and why he hasn't stepped down. He is flat out an embarrassment to Detroit and Michigan.
Anyways, for anyone who doesn't know...
Kwami Kilpatrick, Detroits mayor, at first he was in trouble for possibly spending the cities money on things like an SUV, and personal things...Vacations, shit like that.
And...Well, I don't remember half the other crap he was charged with, but just check this out- Kwame Kilpatrick - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
He went to jail for one night the other day. Woopdeedoo. One night. He has a tether now. He was supposed to go to the convention for the barrack obama, but obama basically said that Kwami is not welcome. But, despite the tether and not being welcome, looks like the judge might allow him to take the tether off to go to the convention. People are arguing that kwami is important and needs to go. Which is bullshit. Kwami is shit. He's not important, he's flat out a disgrace.
I'd love to go on, but I'll stop. I don't even live in detroit, I'm like 15 minutes away, and even I'm pissed that they haven't done something about everything he's done yet. One night in jail and a tether. wtf? DITCH HIS ASS.
But then again, guess we can all thank the dumbasses in detroit who voted him in in the first place. Woot! Quote:
The mayoral terms of Kilpatrick have been plagued with controversies which have included allegations of marital infidelity, conspiracy, perjury, and murder. Kilpatrick is the only mayor in the history of Detroit and the only current mayor of any major U.S. city to be charged with a felony while in office.
On March 24, 2008, Kilpatrick was charged with eight felony counts, including perjury, misconduct in office, and obstruction of justice. If found guilty of felony perjury, Kilpatrick would be disbarred and could be jailed for up to 15 years per count. He would also lose his mayoralty. The recent controversies have prompted calls for his resignation, an ethics probe, and a recall election campaign to have Kilpatrick removed from office.
On May 13, 2008, the Detroit City Council approved a resolution to request that Michigan's governor, Jennifer Granholm, remove Kwame Kilpatrick from office.
On August 7, 2008, Mayor Kilpatrick was incarcerated in the Wayne County Jail upon an order issued by Judge Ronald Giles for violating the terms of his bond (by traveling to Canada and failing to notify the court),[2] becoming the first mayor in Detroit's history to be ordered to jail while in office. On August 8, 2008, Michigan's Attorney General, Mike Cox, announced two new felony counts had been filed against Kilpatrick for assaulting and interfering with a law officer.

| Yeah. BS. All of it. They're talking on the news now though about how they might make a deal with him if he steps down. I'm guessing they might drop some of the charges if he just backs the fuck off. Which I think would be a very wise decision for him. Quote: |

| It actually does suck to live in michigan. I mean, aside from the jacked up weather we get, economy is horrible, there are way too many homeless people, there aren't enough jobs....
But hey. I don't care. This place can rot to shit. I'm leaving in october to italy. FUCK YOU DETROIT @ MICHIGAN.

They pretend they are running for office and that the have Kwami backing them. Then they decide that it's not worth it to have him backing them. It's mildly amusing. (For those who don't know, 89x is the rock/alternative station for Detroit and Windsor).
I'm with ya on the Detroit rotting thing though Mrs. Morris. To bad our families will be left here though.

GPoints: 41 Rep Power: 1 | I spent 4 years living in Windsor, Canada (directly across the river from Detroit) and I remember all the hype when he got elected. Everyone was like "OH FINALLY! Someone to remove all the corruption from this town!" and for a while everything DID seem to be getting better. But after he was reelected and I returned to Sweden, it seems like it all just went right down the toilet. I have heard from a friend who still lives just outside Wayne, MI that he has been not only buying personal items with city taxes but also used the money to pay for prostitutes! I of course have no idea if this is true or not, but still, if theres a rumour like that going around, something is definately wrong.
I hope that they investigate him through and through, make him pay back all that he allegedly stole if they can prove he stole it, and that they force him to pay restitution to the city. How on earth are they supposed to elect a new mayor knowing they chose that guy not once but TWICE.
All around a big mess in my opinion.
But that joke by 89x is so hilarious and brings back some fond memories of other things they did when I was living there (from 99 - 04)!
