And I'm guessing the people against this are religious nut jobs who are scared to find out that god doesn't exist.
But if there's proof he does I'm sure they'll go insane with happiness and then we get to deal with people similar to Mac users, but this will have more people.

Nobody knows what's going to happen, not even the scientists. It isn't stupid to get worried over something like this when it's all up in the air, especially when the majority of the planet won't even understand or care about the results. Unless they all die, of course. Then I think they'll be pretty pissed. | Jesus H. Christ; did you read anything I posted? Scientists know almost exactly what's going to happen. I could understand people being freaked out if this was some sort of huge, new breakthrough, but the fact is that scientists have been using particle accelerators for close to 70 years.

The only difference here is that this one is larger than the others that have been built, but also more advanced. It is also staffed by some of the most intelligent physicists in the world. So far, the only theories I've heard for things that could go wrong sound like conspiracy theories and end-of-the-world scenarios, and few of them have been supported by real science.
EDIT:
I found a statistic. A while back, the folks at the RHIC (Relativistic Heavy Ion Collidor in New York) thought that they had created a micro black hole by slamming two gold nuclei together. It lasted for about "1 * 10^-98 seconds."
Beyond that, given that the two forces governing the strength of a gravitational field are mass and distance, I doubt we have a problem. I mean, we're talking an almost negligible mass. What type of gravitational field does a penny create? Now imagine an atom. That's around 10^-16 of a meter.
Do people honestly expect something that small to generate the same gravitational pull as a spacial black hole, created by the collapse of a star? If so, those people know very little about gravity and the basic fundamentals of physics. | I do in fact know just about nothing about physics.
I don't know what could go wrong because I don't know what the machine is made of, and what the parts do and stuff.
"1 * 10^-98 seconds." <- That means nothing to me.
Unless you mean "1 x (10(or more) to 98 seconds?)"

I think basically means 1 x 10 to the power of negative 98 seconds.
And black holes would be awesome to create, then we can go to parallel worlds if you believe that xD, I'd personally just like to see one, and hopefully watch the world burn from the safety of Pluto heh. The scientists know what they are doing, and if something goes wrong where the Earth is literally ripped apart, well, we're screwed.

Only problem would be is that some parallel universes could be like every good person, in our universe, is now a serial killer, or something like that. xD

Unless you mean "1 x (10(or more) to 98 seconds?)" | Basically, 1/(10^98) seconds. An infinitesimally small amount of time.
