For version 1 yea it needs more color, but for version 2, it doesnt. It's up to the person's choice on that one, that's why there are 2 versions. Also here are the results of 2 other people who tried this tut:

i like this out come
see how it has a lot more going on than the one in the tut?
not as much negative space, some good flow and movement and nice lighting.
